Maintenance Plumber-Backflow Tester
About the Opportunity
Claxton Logistics is looking for an experienced Maintenance Plumber with backflow prevention expertise to support potable and recycled water systems at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. In this hands-on role, you’ll inspect, test, certify, troubleshoot, and repair backflow prevention devices across the installation. You’ll be expected to complete each service safely, accurately, and on contract schedule. If you hold current backflow and water distribution certifications and like working outdoors on mission-critical infrastructure, we’d like to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
- Perform scheduled backflow testing and document passing and failing results
- Diagnose deficiencies, repair devices, and retest after repairs
- Follow manufacturer instructions and approved testing procedures
- Report failed devices, required repairs, and service interruptions promptly
- Complete certification forms, work orders, maintenance records, and required photographs
- Maintain test kits, tools, and applicable calibration records
- Coordinate shutdowns and site access through designated management
- Follow approved safety procedures and support quality control inspections
What You Bring (Required)
- At least 2 years of experience performing backflow testing and repair services
- Current Backflow Device Tester certification issued by AWWA or ABPA
- Current California D1 Water Distribution Operator certification or higher
- Current Recycled Water Site Supervisor certification
- Credentials that meet the contract’s requirements to perform work in San Diego County, in place before starting assigned services
- Ability to meet military installation access requirements
Key Skills
- Knowledge of backflow prevention assemblies, valves, and water distribution systems
- Proficiency with backflow test kits, plumbing tools, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Ability to read technical drawings, manufacturer instructions, and testing procedures
- Accurate electronic reporting and photo documentation
- Clear communication, teamwork, scheduling, and strong attention to detail
Preferred Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Plumbing apprenticeship, trade school, or coursework in water distribution or backflow prevention
Working Conditions
This position involves outdoor work throughout Camp Pendleton on uneven terrain. It requires frequent bending and kneeling and handling tools and equipment. Candidates must be able to perform the essential duties of the position, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
Salary/Pay Note: SCA position, $31.79/hr + $5.09/hr H&W
